a little bit more about me

My name is Beth and I accidentally have found myself living in Arizona but I'm originally from Tennessee. My education is in history and anthropology, which means that I know a little about a lot of things and can hold my own at a cocktail party in mixed company. I work in museums, doing all sorts of things ranging from researching and writing exhibits to cataloguing absolute wickety wak. I love comedy, baking, photography, my daughter, dogs, and above all else, napping.*

* 2013 edit: Oh yeah, and my new son too.

    With that kind of budget

I just asked some creative friends for ideas on maximizing a small space - we're moving Baby #2 into Baby #1's Toddler's room & need to get creative to fit both beds in there and still have any space for storage.

After I describe the situation (we're in tight quarters - a very small 2 bedroom and the bunk-bed solution that I keep finding online won't work because Toddler is only 2), someone sends me a link.

To a $3400 toddler murphy bed.

    Yes. Thirty four hundred dollars.

Aka Three THOUSAND four hundred dollars.

Look, chica. If I had $3400 I'd be using it.

    • For an interior designer to solve my problems with the kids room.
    • Or movers to haul our crap to a bigger house.
    • Or a babysitting account so we could go out to eat at a non-kid-friendly restaurant or see a movie more than once in a year.
    • Or a month's worth of alcohol ;)

    Unfiltered Thoughts: The Workday

Am I the only one who views the workday as an impediment to the sh*t I want to and need to get done? Instead of sitting here for 8 hours I would rather:

    • finish my Photoshop Mother's Day project
    • finish the art I started 7 months ago for my daughter's nursery
    • finish start at least one of the three books I got from the library
    • watch another episode of Luther
    • nap

And, for those of you who are counting, in addition to the pet projects I would like to get done, I also need to:

    • fold and put away laundry
    • buy a robot vacuum / floor cleaner mop
    • figure out something to make for dinner that isn't one of the 5 same old, same old recipes in my repertoire of late
    • nap.

    My Childhood Home

My parents sold my childhood home today. Sigh. It had to happen. It just makes me all nostalgic for all those memories. Using the clothesline for a GI Joe zipline (Yes, I was a tomboy). Playing in the backyard, the tire swing, the "forest" down the road, and the field behind the house. Staying inside on snow days and watching the snow fall through the enormous dining room windows.

I guess this will have to do for whenever I want to revisit that place.
